2015 News

February 22nd, 2015

2015 has been – and promises to continue being – an exciting year. I have just returned from a five-day trip to South America as part of the cultural delegation accompanying Frank Walter Steinmeier. Brazil, Peru and Colombia were very inspiring places with very interesting conversations and encounters.

The new CD “A Clear Midnight” – Kurt Weill and America will be released on ECM in March. We have invited Theo Bleckmann to be our guest and I am already looking forward very much to the concerts. If everything goes well, we be playing in America and Canada for the first time this year.

On March 6th, the project “Frau Wernicke: Comment of a national comrade” will be premiered by Cornelia Froboess and the Julia Hülsmann Quintet in Magdeburg. Frau Wernicke is a character which was invented by the BBC during World War 2. There will be another performance on March 8th at Dessau’s Bauhaus. The line-up of the quintet includes Uli Kempendorff (sax, clarinet), Kai Brückner (guitar), Clara Däubler (bass) and Sebastian Merk (drums).

May 2nd will see another premiere: In Halle, the Julia Hülsmann Octet will perform the new programme “Songs for double Trio and 3 voices”. I have invited singers Live Maria Roggen (Norway), Aline Frazao (Angola) and Jelena Kuljic (Serbia). We will be playing some of my favorite songs as well as original compositions, accompanied by Gerdur Gunnarsdottir (violin), Susanne Paul (cello), Eva Kruse (bass) and Eva Klesse (drums).
